Dog Training Tips And Techniques For Beginners

As one of the most loyal and loving pets a family can own, dogs are great companions. They are, unfortunately, sometimes difficult to train for those who are not prepared. If this is you, consider some info on dog training for dummies to help you get started.
Understand that it is best to begin this process while your dog is young, or as soon as you come into possession of an adult dog. Establishing your goals early and getting started immediately will make the process much easier. Most people are interested primarily in house training their dogs to avoid messes, but you may be interested in obedience training and trick training.
House training a dog is difficult, but far from impossible. This process is best approached with puppies, but it is achievable at any age. Careful planning is key, which means that you should begin recognizing patterns that indicate when the dog needs to use the bathroom. Key times to be ready to take your dog out include after meals and first thing in the morning after you awake. Also, be mindful of signs that your dog needs to go outside, like pacing in circles or sniffing around.
You may want to take advantage of puppy pads and dog kennels, both of which will make your job considerably easier. Kennels are a great place to put your dog when you leave the house, as a dog will try not to relieve itself in small, confined spaces. Don't leave them in the kennel for too long. They can only hold their bladder for so long, so try not to leave them confined for more than a couple of hours.
Puppy pads are also a great idea. Most dogs tend to instinctively use the bathroom on these small pads, which is great for avoiding messes. Try slowly moving your puppy pads toward the door used to take the dog outside. With a bit of patience, you will probably find your dog moving towards the door when he or she needs to use the bathroom, giving you a clue to take your puppy outside.
To achieve a bit of control over your dog, consider utilizing obedience training. Dogs who have been trained in this way tend to be happier and live longer. When exploring this, take advantage of positive reinforcement when your dog does well, while using firm but calm corrective methods when the dog fails. Be sure to stay upbeat and keep the experience fun. Through repetition, your dog will pick up on your goals. Don't force your dog to endure grueling or long training sessions. Keep it short and simple
Teaching your dog to "sit" or "stay" is also a great bonding exercise between a dog and it's owner. Be sure to stay firm and focused during this process. Consider using treats to help your dog get the idea, while using your verbal command simultaneously. In time, the idea is to slowly remove the treat completely. This should be a fun process for both of you, so be sure to avoid becoming frustrated or angry. Dogs pick up on emotions, and negative ones will slow your process.
Understand that different breeds will respond differently to training. Some will get the message very quickly, while other breeds might require more time and patience. No matter the type of dog you own, training it is a very achievable goal. Be sure to approach this process with love and patience, as this will make the process easier for everyone involved.
